Here’s the truth: you don’t really understand Shanghai the first time you visit. I didn’t—and I lived here for six years. I came as a student, stayed for work, and slowly learned how this city works. This trip is the Shanghai I wish I had known back then.
Start your morning at the Bund. The sun hits the old buildings, the skyline shines, and locals practice tai chi before the crowds arrive. Then cross the river to Shanghai Tower. The elevator is so fast your ears might pop, and the view from the top? Unforgettable.
Yuyuan Garden is beautiful, but don’t miss the xiaolongbao dumplings outside the gate—they’re just as good as the garden. The Flower and Bird Market is pure fun: flowers, pets, and locals bargaining over singing crickets.
The real heart of Shanghai is in a small kitchen, making wontons with a local family. It’s warm, noisy, and full of stories. And if you have time, Zhujiajiao Water Town will take you back hundreds of years with its stone bridges and quiet canals.
At night, catch the acrobatics show. Even after all my years here, the motorcycle stunt still makes me hold my breath. Shanghai is full of surprises—and this tour will give you a taste of them all.
